Functional Bodywork Therapy

What This Therapy Is For

Functional Bodywork Therapy is for people who want to resolve chronic tension, improve posture and mobility, and build a body that works better in everyday life and training — not just feel temporary relief. This 1:1 work focuses on how your body functions as a whole system: how you move, how load is distributed, where tension accumulates, and where weakness limits movement and performance. The goal is long-term change in body function, not a one-off massage effect.

How This Work Is Different

Instead of working only where it hurts, I identify why tension or pain keeps returning.I look for:
• movement restrictions
• weak or overloaded areas
• postural imbalances
• dysfunctional movement patterns
By addressing root causes, this approach helps restore balance, improve posture, and increase freedom of movement.

How a Session Works

Each session is crafted for you and adapted to your body’s current state, goals, and capacity.Sessions take place:
• on a massage table in a private treatment room in London Queen’s Park, or
• on a high-quality floor mat at your home.
You can choose between:
• Deep work — for faster, more noticeable structural and functional changes
• Gentle work — for a slower, more gradual transformation, suitable for sensitive or overloaded bodies.
Both options are equally intentional and tailored — the difference is intensity, not quality.

Deep Neck & Jaw Release (Optional)

Unlike standard massage, I offer focused work on:
• the front and back of the neck
• the jaw and surrounding structures
These areas often hold deep, chronic tension that affects posture, breathing, and overall comfort but is commonly overlooked. This work can significantly improve mobility, reduce tension-related symptoms, and support deeper full-body change.
It can be requested separately or integrated into a full-body session.

Benefits

This work may help you:
• Improve joint mobility and flexibility
• Reduce muscle tension, pain, and stress
• Restore postural balance
• Improve sleep and overall wellbeing
• Support sports recovery and physical performance
• Build functional strength
• Recover movement quality after injury
• Develop better body awareness and control

Who This Work Is For

This therapy is suitable for:
• Physically active people and athletes
• Individuals experiencing chronic tension, stiffness, or postural issues
• People recovering from injuries or movement limitations
• Clients looking for a deep, personalised, hands-on approach, not a generic massage
• Anyone interested in understanding how their body moves and functions

How This Work Is Applied

Sessions may include:
• Thai massage, acupressure, trigger point, and deep tissue techniques
• Theragun massage to prepare and warm tissues
• Strengthening and mobility/flexibility exercises
• Breathwork to support physical and emotional release
These elements are not used as fixed methods, but adapted and combined based on what your body needs.

📍Y Curate
North Kensington, 135 Kilburn Lane, W10 4AN

Split training

This 1:1 training is for those who are serious about flexibility and ready to put in the work.Ideal for dancers, performers, athletes, and active individuals aiming for true splits and functional, usable flexibility — not just looking flexible. If your goal is:
• front splits
• middle splits
• a flexible, controlled spine
• open, strong shoulders
I offer structured, intensive training focused on quality, control, and long-term results.

HOW THIS TRAINING IS DIFFERENT

This is not passive stretching.
Not forcing positions.
Not chasing the look of flexibility.
Splits and flexibility are built through:
• correct muscle activation
• joint alignment
• controlled strength in range
I work on how your body enters and holds positions, not just how far it goes.

WHAT WE WORK ON

Depending on your goal, sessions may focus on:
• front or middle splits
• hip mobility and pelvic control
• hamstrings, adductors, hip flexors
• spinal mobility and flexible back work
• shoulder opening and overhead range
Special attention is given to:
• weak or underactive muscles
• asymmetries between sides
• compensations that limit progress or increase injury risk

LEARNING TO WORK INDEPENDENTLY

You won’t just be guided — you will be taught. You will learn:
• how to engage muscles correctly in splits
• how to train independently and safely
• how to maintain progress between sessions
This allows you to continue improving without constant supervision.

WHO THIS TRAINING IS FOR

• you have a clear flexibility goal
• you value precision and quality
• you are ready to work actively
• you want results that last
Not suitable if you’re looking for a quick, passive solution.

SESSION FORMAT

Sessions are fully personalised and adapted to:
• your current level
• your body structure
• your training background
• your specific goal and timeline
Training can be intense and demanding, but always intentional and controlled.

About

ALEXANDRA VAIS

.

I am a highly qualified Massage and Stretch Therapist with over 14 years of experience in movement science and bodywork. My expertise is built on a unique blend of academic background — holding a Master’s in Sport Physiology and a Bachelor’s in Physical Rehabilitation — and 7 years of elite-level stretching practice in a circus gymnastics environment.
Having worked as a physiotherapist, massage therapist and fitness coach, I specialise in functional bodywork and active flexibility training. I adapt my knowledge to identify the root causes of tension, focusing on structural balance rather than temporary relief. My personal journey through injury recovery and my background as a certified Reiki Master allow me to offer a holistic, yet highly technical and results-driven approach.
With 16 years of multi-sport experience I am focused on achieving real results, supporting people who are committed to progress and ready to take their practice seriously.

FAQ

Wear comfortable clothing that covers your body and allows free movement. Clean socks help create the right surface for deeper work and keep your feet warm and relaxed. Sessions are done fully clothed.

For deep results, sessions twice a week are ideal. Once a week is great for maintaining progress, while less frequent sessions may slow down overall results.

This method works deeply to release tension and stored emotions. You may feel discomfort as your body lets go of accumulated tension.

It is always safe, and I adapt the depth of work to your readiness. You are always in control. It’s a powerful method, but never forced.

After the release, most people experience a significant sense of relief, lightness, and freedom. If you are sensitive, you can choose "Gentle Mode" for a more gradual experience.

Yes. Improving posture is one of the main goals. We work on alignment, balance, and movement awareness to help you move and hold your body more efficiently.

No prior experience is required. My method includes guided exercises, so even if you are new to movement, you will learn and gain experience along the way.

Yes. I have extensive experience working in rehabilitation centers and with clients recovering from injuries. Sessions are tailored carefully to your condition. For acute injuries, please consult your doctor before booking.

Functional bodywork is safe for most, however, it might not be suitable if:

  • • You are not ready for deep changes in your body.
  • • You have acute injuries or very recent surgeries.
  • • You have serious medical conditions without doctor's clearance.

This method combines bodywork, movement, and therapeutic techniques in a holistic and personalised way. It focuses on functional improvement and long-term restoration, not just temporary symptom relief.

Many clients notice improvements after the first session. However, long-term transformation requires consistent practice over time.

Yes, I work with chronic tension and mild pain. Please note this is wellness support and functional restoration, not a medical treatment.

Absolutely. It complements other wellness therapies, osteopathy, and fitness routines perfectly.

Anyone seeking improved movement, posture, flexibility, faster recovery, stress relief, or overall physical wellbeing.

I guide you on which muscles to focus on during your daily life. If you want a full step-by-step program, ready-made plans are available for purchase.

If you are looking for deep, lasting change and are ready to commit to understanding your body better, this method is for you.

Both options are available. However, most clients achieve their goals through our structured packages (5, 10, or 15 sessions).

Progress depends on your individual starting point, intention, and commitment to the process.

Chiropractic often offers temporary adjustments. This method focuses on long-term restoration by re-educating the muscles and connective tissues through bodywork and movement.
